Learn with the MTA and Earn PDPs

Format: Zoom meetings August 19 through 22, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Final assessment due August 23.

In order to meet the needs of your classroom’s growing population of culturally and linguistically diverse students, it is important that the literature you read, use, and study provides opportunities for mirrors and windows for all of your students. In this workshop, we will investigate why using inclusive literature in the classroom is important; explore our own cultural proficiency regarding instructional texts; read various picture books for grades K-12 that incorporate inclusive content and themes; develop instructional strategies that support ELL students; discover how to integrate inclusive picture books into the curriculum; and learn how to use various resources that help to find and identify inclusive literature. The presenters will facilitate learning through online resources, group activities, and presenter-led discussions. In addition to the 12 hours of meeting time, participants will be expected to complete an additional 3 hours of homework throughout the duration of the course including a final project.

This program meets DESE requirements for 15 PDPs in English Language Learners during each 5-year Professional License Renewal cycle.
